Amazonian Connection: Community Roots, Flourishing Horizons
In the heart of the Amazon Rainforest, the 2025 Student Energy Summit (SES 2025) will harness the power of youth-led change to impact communities worldwide. Set in Manaus, Brazil, from October 29th to November 1st, SES 2025 will be the world’s biggest youth energy event, bringing together 500 young changemakers from across the globe to accelerate the just transition, equipping these innovators with the networks and skills to tackle real-world energy and climate challenges.
At SES 2025 young leaders, industry experts, government officials, policymakers, and private sector representatives will unite to share knowledge and collaborate on solutions to the critical energy issues affecting by vulnerable communities worldwide. Hosting SES 2025 in the Amazon highlights the intersection of energy and biodiversity, showcasing how a just energy transition can protect vital ecosystems while empowering communities to thrive.
Home to 10% of the Earth’s known species and acting as a crucial global carbon sink, the Amazon Rainforest is essential in safeguarding biodiversity and supporting local communities’ cultural and ecological continuity. With this regional importance in mind, SES 2025 will emphasize the role of traditional communities in resource stewardship, focusing on critical minerals and mining, decentralized energy innovations, and public-private partnerships to advance clean energy. Just as the rainforest’s deep roots sustain its ecosystem, local communities hold essential knowledge to guide the global energy transition. At SES 2025, we will learn to integrate necessary local insights with global ideas, scaling solutions for an equitable and sustainable energy transition. Summit programming will include curated training sessions with representatives from Amazonian communities to prepare delegates to bridge underrepresented communities and critical energy stakeholders, empowering them to become effective communicators and advocates for meaningful change.
Since 2009, SES has united over 4000 youth from 200+ countries to reimagine the future, break barriers, and connect the unconnected. In 2025, we will build on the Summit’s legacy, reach new communities, and foster collaboration amongst young leaders who are tackling urgent energy challenges. Hosting SES in the Amazon underscores the importance of centring communities, particularly those often overlooked in high-level convenings across the climate and energy space. SES 2025 will unite a diverse range of delegates, giving youth from remote communities around the world, global Indigenous youth, and youth from Latin America, SIDS and the Caribbean the unique opportunity to share their expertise and challenges while working with global participants to co-create a roadmap for a sustainability future that addresses the intricate dynamics of the energy transition.
While past energy innovation often came at the expense of natural resources and traditional cultures, today’s energy transition calls for a new generation focused on a just and inclusive future. SES 2025 will spotlight youth who, rooted in their local contexts, are working to solve their region’s energy challenges. By gathering these young innovators, SES will foster an exchange of ideas that delegates can bring back to their own communities, demonstrating young people’s ability to navigate complex and nuanced energy issues and helping their visions for their own energy futures grow and thrive. As the urgency to mitigate climate change while expanding energy access intensifies, SES 2025 calls on all of us to prioritize community-centered solutions, particularly in regions near endangered ecosystems.
Together at SES 2025, we will unite through this Amazonian Connection, harnessing our collective strength to drive real change. SES 2025 is not just a Summit; it is a movement where young minds come together to envision a flourishing horizon as we build a brighter more sustainable, inclusive future for all.
