SES 2026 Ambassador

Melav Salih
GHG Analyst @ ResponsibleSteel | Sustainable Technology MSc @ KTH
I am originally from Kurdistan Iraq, but grew up in the Netherlands and the UAE. In 2022, I graduated from the University of Groningen with a Bachelor of Science in Physics and Applied Physics. I worked as a software engineer and then as the sustainability lead for a green tech company in Sweden. At the same time, I studied at KTH Royal Institute of Technology and graduated with a master’s degree in Sustainable Technology in 2024.
Most recently, I did my master’s thesis in stakeholder engagement with Stegra and completed an internship with the European Space Agency in Corporate Sustainability Communication and Reporting. Currently, I work as a GHG Analyst in ResponsibleSteel. Over the years, I have also been active in international youth-led energy and sustainability organisations such as Student Energy, YES-Europe, European Youth Energy Forum, UNFCCC, MENA Youth Network and founded my own NGO, Kurdistan Environmental Youth.
I enjoy swimming, reading and meeting new people! Really looking forward to pushing the Student Energy agenda at COP.
My NGO, Kurdistan Environmental Youth provided trainings for over 150 youth in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. These trainings were meant to develop ideas into long term solutions by diving into the root cause of the problem they wanted to solve. Through team building and planning exercises, many youth were able to articulate their thoughts into business plans. From this, a lot of grass roots projects were born and further developed. In addition, many partnerships were created with different sectors such as agriculture, medicine and architecture.
